Who We Support

Enrolled degree candidates in the following schools are eligible for all programs and services:

  • Harvard College
  • Graduate School of Arts and Sciences
  • Graduate School of Education
  • Harvard Kennedy School

Students in the following schools are eligible for limited services by referral from their Schools: 

  • Harvard Extension School
  • Harvard Law School

There is no charge for BSC programs and services, except peer tutoring, ESL peer consultation, and the Harvard Course in Reading and Study Strategies. Fees vary by school. Please see details regarding eligibility and fees in the appropriate tab below.

If your school is not listed above, please contact your program director or dean of students for information on academic counseling and advising services.

Harvard College Students

Harvard College degree candidates and visiting undergraduates (VUS) are eligible for all BSC programs and services. Students on a leave of absence or who are studying abroad are not eligible for services. Students must be on campus to participate in these programs and services. There is no charge for programs and services, except where noted. See note below regarding financial aid.

College students who work with other students, e.g., peer advising fellows, peer educators, course assistants, etc., may consult with BSC academic counselors on issues and concerns related to their work with their peers.

* Financial aid information: Students receiving financial aid from Harvard will receive a credit at the end of each academic term for their peer tutoring, ESL peer consultation, and Reading Course fees on their termbill in proportion to their financial aid package. If you have a financial aid package and would like to know the amount that you will be credited for the fees, please contact your financial aid officer or email the Harvard College Financial Aid Office.

If you have any concerns about being able to afford the fees, please contact the BSC and/or the Financial Aid Office. The College wants peer tutoring to be within financial reach of all students; College staff are readily available to consult with you about these concerns to figure out next steps.

 

Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Students

GSAS degree candidates and full-time visiting fellows are eligible for all BSC programs and services. Students not enrolled in a degree program at GSAS (e.g., part-time special students, visiting scholars, professional fellows, post-doctoral fellows) are not eligible for services. Students must be on campus to participate in these programs and services. There is no charge for programs and services, except where noted.

Harvard Extension School Students

Harvard Extension School degree and certificate candidates are eligible for limited services listed below by referral from their academic advisors. Candidates must be on campus to participate in academic counseling, peer tutoring, and the Harvard Course in Reading and Study Strategies.

Up to three (3) meetings per semester. Referral is required.
Step 1: Obtain a referral from your academic advisor.
Step 2: Once a referral is signed and sent to the BSC, call 617-495-2581 or stop by 5 Linden Street during office hours to schedule an appointment.

Up to four (4) hours of tutoring per week. Referral is required.
Step 1: Obtain a referral from your academic advisor.
Step 2: Once a referral is signed and sent to the BSC, submit peer tutoring request(s) through the Tutoring@Harvard portal.

Fee for degree/certificate candidates: $75
Fee for non candidates: $150

Academic Workshops at the Harvard Extension School
The BSC offers academic workshops at the Harvard Extension School.  Extension School students are not eligible for workshops and discussions offered at the BSC.

Faculty & Staff

Faculty and staff at Harvard Collge, GSAS, HGSE, HKS, and Harvard Extension may consult with BSC academic counselors on issues related to students' learning and development or to request a workshop tailored to the needs of their students. Faculty and staff are not eligible for academic counseling or to participate in BSC workshops and discussions.

Faculty and staff who work with students may qualify for complimentary registration for the Harvard Course in Reading and Study Strategies. Examples of staff who qualify for complimentary registration: teaching fellows, course staff, resident/non-resident tutors, proctors, residential life staff, freshman/sophomore/concentration advisers, and undergraduate/graduate coordinators. Harvard Law School Students

Harvard Law School students eligible for limited services listed below. Students must be on campus to participate in these services. 

ESL Peer Consultation
Fee: $19/hour
HLS degree candidates are eligible to participate in this program by referral from the Dean of Students Office. Student may apply for limited funding to cover the fees. For more details and to obtain a referral, contact Laskhmi Clark, Director of Student Affairs.

Academic Skills Workshops at the Harvard Law School
The BSC offers academic skills workshops at the Harvard Law School. HLS students are not eligible for workshops and discussions offered at the BSC.

Harvard Graduate School of Education Students

HGSE degree candidates are eligible for all BSC programs and services. Students who are not enrolled in a degree program at HGSE are not eligible for services. Students must be on campus to participate in these programs and services. There is no charge for programs and services, except where noted.
